JOURNAL PROMPT: WEEK 3
Imagine that you’ve taken it as absolute truth that you are basically good, born whole and free, and that everything you experience is an expression of that True Self in some way — even when it’s a bit coded, such as our experience of our managers and defensive selves. As in, you’ve fully internalized this truth that you are intrinsically sane and loving at your core, and even when you weren’t experiencing it, you still trusted that it’s there. What would your life look like? How might this change your daily routines? Your relationships? Your work? Choices that you make around recreation and play?
Now imagine for a moment that everyone — absolutely everyone — had internalized this truth in the same, unwavering way. What would our societies look like: locally, nationally, globally? What would government look like? What might economics look like? What would consumerism look like?
Take some time to sit with this and walk through these scenarios. It might be tempting to think to yourself, “This is redundant. Obviously, everything would be better,” or even, “That’s impossible, so why bother?” I’ll gently remind you that Einstein once wrote that imagination is more important than knowledge, and that we can’t achieve anything we haven’t imagined for ourselves. So if you believed it when Occupy Wall Street chanted, “Another world is possible,” then set your mind to what specifically that means.
Besides, even if it’s impossible for everyone to get on board with this, it is utterly possible, with time and practice, for you to.
