IN THIS LESSON

The journey begins with attending the soma, the body: the nexus of our psycho-emotional-spiritual lives, the seat of intuition, the storehouse of all unprocessed and unresolved wounds and frustrations — a largely ignored facet of our existence and yet literally the most sophisticated entity in the known universe.

We also begin setting the stage by acknowledging the inherent vulnerability in meditation practice and by offering the body, which is primed to defend against vulnerability, the energy of the Holding Environment.

Week 1 Meditation:

WEEK 1 HANDOUT

JOURNAL PROMPT: Week 1

Reflect on a time you felt truly safe and secure. Perhaps it was a moment of being held. Perhaps it was in a relationship. Perhaps it was after a moment of averting disaster or getting out of a challenging situation. Or something else.

It can also be an imaginary place that you make up, even right now, where you feel totally safe and connected.

Hold this memory in your mind.
Go inside and relive it to the best of your ability.
And notice, slowly:
What is like to feel safe?
What is like in your body?
What do you notice?
Softening? Relaxation? Warmth? Tingling? Lightness? Something else?

Find as many adjectives as you can to describe what it’s like.
